Humility, not my will but your will
Humility not my will but your will. The key to humility is submission, one must be willing to submit to the will of God the Father. Like Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. When He faced His biggest trial, His purpose for coming to earth. Jesus prayed and even begged for the cup to be taken from Him. And at the end He submitted to God’s will and said “Not my will but your will be done“. As believers we are called to model our lives according to the life of Jesus. The Holy spirit who lives on the inside of us has been tasked with remodelling us to reflect the character of Jesus.
Submission
Why does the word submission leave such a bitter taste in the mouth? I think this is because of the idea of conceding control over your life. Submission means ‘the act of accepting the power or authority of someone else’. God is King and in His kingdom we are subjects who are called to submit to His rule, His will. I believe that submission on our part is linked to our ability and willingness to obey. My obedience is linked to what I trust and believe. Do I believe God is a good God, do I trust He is able to do what He says He will do? Do I believe that I am His child and that He loves me with an everlasting love?
Surrender
Humility will mean surrender. To surrender you have to give up the right to be in charge of your life. You have to hand over the reins of your life to God. To say not my will but your will be done. I hate being vulnerable and yet that is what I am called to be as a subject of God. We are called to trust Him implicitly especially when the answer or guidance we seek is not the way we envisioned. I am called to trust Him even when the path He has laid out will label me a fool.
Service
Service is a by product of our humility as we surrender to the will of God. As God’s children ultimately we are called to serve. Therefore, we are called to witness for the kingdom and to be the love of Jesus in our spaces of influence. so what does this look like? I think the fruits of the Holy Spirit give us a good hint. When non believers interact with us, they should find us loving, peaceful, patient, kind, good, fateful, gentle and full of self-control.

I am encouraged by His promise in Isaiah 43:2. “I will be with you”.. as I learn to submit to the will of God.
Indeed submission is one of the words that feel like they devoid our will power and choices in life. However there’s great joy in the fruits of submission. The path is not always easy. Thanks Anna for the reminder.
We’ve learnt about submission a week ago in marriage. One of the characteristics of submission is to let the guard down.
Thanks for this article,it teaches and reminds us how to really humble ourselves in all aspects of life and let God take control and lead and guide our paths….very very strong message.
Humility is a key indeed if I will give any service to anyone in my surrendered life.
