Hearing the word has power to bring change. The awe inspiring power of hearing the word brings change in people’s hearts, in their situations and in their conditions. Hearing the word has brought salvation to people that has resulted in dramatic changes in their lives. Hearing the word has been made readily accessible in the internet era. There are sermons on Youtube, podcasts that teach the word and audible bible apps. The word has come near to you, stop running away or hiding from it, sit still and listen. My advice is willingly listen with an open heart believing and trusting. That the Almighty God who created the heavens and earth wants an audience with you, His very own creation, created in His image.
The most dramatic salvation is the story in the bible about the conversion of Saul who later became Paul. We are first introduced to Saul in the book of Acts Chapter 7. Acts 8:1 says “And Saul approved of their killing him“. Acts 8:3 states But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison. In Acts 9 the Lord speaks to Saul on his way to persecute more followers of Christ. Then Jesus instructs a man name Ananias to restore his sight and to pray that he be filled with the Holy Spirit. In the same chapter verse 21 it says All those who heard him were astonished and asked, Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name?
King Jehoshaphat, the fourth King of Judah heard that a vast army was coming to wage war against his people. And so in 2 Chronicles 20: 3 he resolves to inquire of the LORD. And the word of the LORD came through a Levite who said This is what the LORD says to you: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours but God’s. In verses 22 and 23 it is recorded that the LORD set ambushes causing the enemies to fight amongst themselves and they destroyed one another. By the time the men of Judah came to the place where the battle was to take place it had already been won. It is important to believe the word when you receive it, at the time you hear it.
Abraham heard the word from God. And his word was God would make him and his descendants into a great nation. At the time that this word was spoken Abraham and Sarah did not have any children and they were getting on in years. Infact it is recorded that Sarah laughed when she heard the Lord say that she would be with child. In the natural it seemed impossible but with God all things are possible. We have the privilege of having the written word of God with us always in the bible and it is applicable in all and every situation in our lives. My encouragement is read the bible for yourself and often.
