The God who sees, forgives and gives second chances. Do you ever wonder what God is like? What He gets up to, what He does in His spare time? His son Jesus while on earth said ‘I only do what I see my Father do‘. Sometimes words that Jesus said are easy to miss or glaze over in the bible. Jesus did what he witnessed His Father do so this gives us insight on who God is. Or what God gets up to even now. When Jesus was on earth, He healed the sick, cast out demons, raised the dead. He also visited people, attended weddings and stood up for the truth. In the taxpayer story Jesus saw him up in a tree. In the story of the woman caught in the act of adultery Jesus looked beyond her sin. And in Peter, Jesus saw a leader.
Zacchaeus had heard about Jesus and was desperate to see him that he climbed up a tree. Despite the crowds pressing against Jesus and irrespective of Zacchaeus career choice the Lord saw him up in the tree. He saw the desperation for a connection. Jesus responded to this need by inviting himself to Zaccheaus’ house. Zaccheaus was so impacted by this gesture and time spent with Jesus. That he completely changed, he repented, he offered to pay half of what he earned to the poor and to repay all those he had cheated. Just as Jesus saw Zaccheaus, God sees you today. He wants to come into your life and for you to be impacted by His presence.
The woman caught in the act of adultery was dragged and put to shame infront of Jesus and all who were with him. Jesus did not pretend nor ignore the fact that she had sinned. Instead He chose to show her mercy and forgive her. He took pity on her and had compassion. In the same way when a sinner chooses to believe in His name, the gift of salvation is freely given. God is not interested in the sins we commit because Jesus paid the price already. He is keen that none should be lost.
Peter was always putting his foot in his mouth. Peter had sworn that he would not betray Jesus solely depending on his own strength. However what Jesus had said came to pass, Peter denied Him three times before the crow crowed. After Jesus resurrected, he looked for Peter to remind and call him out. God loves us and once He forgives us, He automatically gives us a second chance. My prayer for you is that you won’t miss the opportunities that come with the second chances you are given!
