God help! is a complete prayer in times of extreme distress. And sometimes the only prayer that your fuddled mind can come up with when you are knee deep in trouble. An even more profound prayer is “Jesus help!” because at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow down. I don’t know if Dads have this superpower but Mums are able to tell what kind of request your child is making by the intonation of the word. Your child is able to convey so much with the way they say Mum. It can convey urgency, it can covey panic, it can convey terror, it can convey joy, happiness, good news etc.
The most important thing about prayer when you are in need is the recognition that you need someone other than yourself to get you out of the situation. God Help! acknowledges that you are looking to God to provide the solution. Your willingness to look elsewhere for help is to be greatly admired. Just don’t ruin it by taking the problem back into your hands once God starts to deliver a solution. Stay in the place of humility till God has completely delivered you.
One of the most difficult things so do which is a command is that we should give thanks at the time you pray, even before you have seen the answer to your prayer. That is hard to do because you have to convince yourself that you are not crazy by doing this. In truth you can only say and mean this because at a deeper level you believe it to be true. I encourage myselt to focus on whom I have put my trust in. I remind myself of all the other times that the Lord has delivered on promises in my life. And when I don’t have a reference point in my life, I look for one in the bible.
What is unique about the God help! prayer is that He who sees you and He who is all knowing knows exactly what is is you are referring to. In fact He knows the subject matter better than you and He was already anticipating your request. All He was waitng for is your permission to let Him deal with the situation on your behalf. Incase you are wondering, He is able because He has a bird’s eye view to the situation and He has had years of pondering what can be done. Trust me when I tell you His got this!

Thank you Anna for sharing. Indeed we need to totally surrender without being too verbal since God already knows.
