God’s promise; I will never leave you nor forsake you. These are powerful words indeed. A promise from God the Father to us, his earthly children. As a child, growing up I fully believed that what my dad said he would do was done. I never doubted him and as far as I can remember he never let me down. Now God who is faithful, who is not man that He should lie. And coupled with the fact that He is all powerful, all knowing when He says He will never leave you nor forsake you, my advice is be wise and choose to believe Him.
I find one of the hardest things to believe is God is present and that He is always present. For the simple reason that He is invisible. Your problems and challenges seem more real than God because you can see them, feel them and experience them. In fact at times it feels as if they mock you and taunt your faith in what cannot be seen. I have found in my journey of faith that God is actually a word away and in my case that word is usually Help!
Forsake is an interesting word , it means to leave someone for ever, especially when they need you. God has said He will never do that. Fear is a weapon the enemy uses against us and despite its overuse it is still very effective. Fear is used to discourage you from facing a challenge that in most cases will lead to great success. An excellent example from the bible is Joshua in the Old testament. Moses had died and Joshua had been chosen to lead the Israelites into the promised land. After he had dilly dallied for a while the Lord made this promise ‘No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you‘.
God uses this promise to reassure us and to instil in us courage. To reassure us that we are not alone, that He has our back. God also uses this verse to encourage us, especially when we feel that our own actions have caused us not to deserve His love. We should remember Romans 8:38 ‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord‘. So today, this week and for the rest of your life step out confidently knowing that He who created the heavens and the earth is by your side alway.
