Money versus financial dependency on God. I know this sounds like a trick question but it is not. I find that I too have the tendency to choose money over financial dependency on God. It is a subconscious and a very deeply ingrained response. Half the time I don’t realise that I am a victim of this trap. Why do I appear to consistently choose money over financial dependency on God? The answer is three fold; money is tangible, money is an acceptable medium for buying goods and services. Money can grow and this satisfies my human desire to be independent, even from God.
One of the best competitive advantages of money is it is tangible in comparison to financial dependency of God. You can see it, touch it and pass it on to someone else. Even when money is not in its physical form for example digital wallets or promissory notes, it is a concept that is easily understood by your creditor or debtor. If you have a financial need and you have money, once you pay money that is usually the end of it. However, when you have a financial need depending on God sounds good only on paper. If you haven’t taken the time to build or work on this relationship there may be a delay in getting the help you need. But remember the earth is the Lords and everything in it. God has the capacity to meet your need.
In buying goods and services, we are often told cash is king. The challenge of depending on God financially is that it is not immediately liquid. The promise is there because in Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus”,. However, most of us have not honed the skill of getting our needs met rapidly. Taking an example of myself, my first instinct is to resolve the issue myself. So I waste time trying to figure out how and what to do. Then in some instances and I can’t explain why, I am embarrassed about raising the issue with God so that causes another delay. By the time round to doing what I should done in the beginning, time has passed.

Another quick win for money is it grows if you make good investment and saving decisions. And if it is passive income then no effort needs to be made on your part except at the start of the process. Now in comparison we have to be intentional about our faith and it feels like hard work. It shouldn’t be if we practice dependency on God correctly. Like I said in the blog two weeks ago, we should depend on God to provide for all our needs. The obstacle we run up against when practicing our faith is fear, we fear we are not in right standing with God. Another obstacle is we feel unworthy, we feel we do not deserve His kindness. Then we tend to lack vision and this limit the ways He can provide for us with our limited or small thinking, mindset. So this week I challenge you to practice depending on God in the little things and one day you will realise you depend on Him in the big things as well!

This book is a heartwarming, contemporary love story between a man and a woman contemplating a life together.
