What no one tells you about parenting is that is a full time job, work without immediate financial rewards and no paid overtime! You don’t have to be told about the long hours, it is easy to deduce that from observing parents who have infants or toddlers. However, there is no going off duty, you are on call 24/7 because of the nature of the job, it is terrifyingly unpredictable, take an example of a busy mum, you have come home from work, had dinner with the children and just as you are about to breathe a sigh of relief as the children go to bed, one of them says they are not feeling well and he or she has come down with at fever now that is you up the whole night! The clock starts ticking from the moment of your baby’s first cry. You become responsible for another human being and what is interesting is the parents that I know whose children have reached adulthood are still on the clock the only difference being you wait to be consulted before giving your advice or opinion . according to you child all thins are possible as long as Mummy and or Daddy are there
Although you don’t get paid in cash, you get paid in toothless grins that lift up their faces when they see you, the way they zero in on you just at the sound of your voice, the pride and sense of accomplishment you feel when they achieve a milestone and the joy bursting at the seams when they come back to give you a hug after they had gone off without even saying goodbye. Priceless moments, moments when you get your ROI. Don’t just live for those moments look forward to them
I have found that co-parenting with God greatly reduces my stress levels. He created them, He knows them best, He knows them better than I ever could, He knows them inside out and best of all He can see them in the future and has planned out their lives. Co-parenting with God will require you to fully utilise the resource called prayer. Call on him when you are worried, tired, fearful and stressed. Also remember call to Him when you have something to celebrate (that I am not very good at) but I know how I feel when either of my children say “Mom, you are the best!” I think God deserves that too especially as He never changes and He is ever present!
Now as parents our children think we are awesome and we are only human imagine we have a parent who never sleeps nor slumbers, Psalm 121:1 Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. (NIV) Now with God on guard I can confidently shut my weary tired eyes knowing full well that His all sufficient grace which is ever available to me will be there to greet me in the morning.
