About Anna Maria Mwachinga

African Engineer and Writer

Born to Tanzanian expatriate parents in Zambia, and then growing up in Nigeria and Uganda before going to school in the United Kingdom, I consider myself a true African daughter. My multi-cultural upbringing gave me a multi-dimensional lens from an early age, from which I tell stories to myself and to others.

One night in August of 2014, my mom’s frantic voice on the other side of the phone, “Anna, I hear you are not working!” Like many women, I had grappled with the balance between being a new mom, working full time at a stressful job with lots of travel and some demanding bosses, and managing the drama that comes with baby sitters. After much deliberation and critically assessing the paycheck, it dawned on me that I was not living a fulfilling life. I felt that it was so much more important for me at the time to take time off employment to adjust to my compelling life and identity as a mom and reconnect with my young family. I packed my bags and flew to Kenya to be with my husband and children and for 8 years, I’ve had an illustrious career as a full-time mom and housewife.

Sadly, In today’s world, many Christians define their identity and worth by what they do professionally.

I do not believe my academic achievements or professional ambitions to be the definition of my identity or worth as a person and as a woman. You will be surprised how many times I have been assumed at dinner parties, before it is made known that I am in fact, a Civil Environmental Engineer by profession and once had a lucrative career outside the home, climbing the all-famous corporate ladder. I invite you to navigate the Christian journey of love with me, as I share lessons from my life’s experiences and from the fictitious characters in my Christian romantic novels.
